Understand Your Child's Needs Through Specialist Integrated Children's Therapies Assessment

A detailed assessment gives families a clearer understanding of their child’s strengths, needs and priorities.

Therapy to Thrive takes an integrated approach when children have complex needs. Physiotherapists, Sensory Integration Practitioners, Speech and Language Therapists and Specialist SEN teachers contribute where appropriate, bringing different professional perspectives to the assessment process.

Our team considers the areas that affect everyday life rather than assessing individual difficulties without context. This approach helps us establish meaningful goals around functional independence, communication, movement, sensory needs, environmental engagement and education.

What Happens During a Children's Therapy Assessment?

Understand the child

The assessment process depends on the reason for referral and the child’s individual presentation.

Our therapists begin by understanding relevant history, current concerns and family priorities. Clinical assessment then explores the areas relevant to the child and the reason for referral.

Supportive assessment

A Physiotherapy assessment might examine gross motor skills, movement, posture or functional mobility. Sensory Integration assessment may explore sensory processing and occupational engagement. Speech and Language Therapy input may consider communication and the relationship between communication, sensory processing and participation.

Clear next steps

Following the appointment, our team explains the findings clearly and provides recommendations tailored to the child’s individual needs.

Integrated Children's Therapies Assessment and Case Management

Children with complex needs often require input from several professionals.

Therapy to Thrive uses a transdisciplinary integrated children’s therapies approach to case management. Our Physiotherapists, Sensory Integration Practitioners, Speech and Language Therapists and Specialist SEN teachers work collaboratively towards shared goals while contributing their individual clinical expertise.

This approach supports children whose neurodevelopmental, sensory, physical or communication needs affect functional independence and engagement within their environment or education.

Our team also works with educational settings, social care, local authorities and statutory services where appropriate, helping different professionals maintain a consistent focus on the child’s planned outcomes.

Sensory Integration Assessments

Sensory processing differences affect children in different ways. Therapy to Thrive provides Sensory Integration assessments for children where sensory needs affect occupational or environmental engagement.

Assessment explores sensory processing and considers how identified differences relate to everyday function.

Collaboration with Speech and Language Therapists also helps our team consider links between sensory processing, behaviour, emotional regulation, social engagement, environmental engagement and education.

Following assessment, our therapists identify relevant treatment approaches and practical recommendations based on the child’s individual sensory profile and functional needs.

How Do We Support the EHCP Process?

Therapy to Thrive supports families through aspects of the Education, Health and Care Plan process where therapy input is relevant.

Our integrated approach allows the team to provide detailed therapy reports and professional advice alongside targeted interventions. Therapists also work collaboratively with educational settings, local authorities, social care and statutory services where appropriate.

This work focuses on helping children progress towards their planned EHCP goals and outcomes while connecting clinical recommendations with their functional and educational needs.
